This high school senior session was all new locations for me with regards to a senior session. We started out at the Mason soccer field and then headed over to a close park. We moved the session time up because of a threat of rain which worked out in our favor. Not only was there an unexpected practice about ready to start at the field but we had great filtered light. I scouted out the park before heading to the school to meet up with the senior and his mom. Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

After a few quick images on the field we made use of the entrance wall on the way out.

Getting that natural smile to appear.

We had some great fall color backgrounds.

Turns out he is a Red Sox fan.

Love he brought a hat to wear.

Finishing up with those great colors in the background.
Saturday night high school football. Not the normal for my schedule as the games I photograph are normally Friday night. I was excited though to be photographing a playoff football game between Mason and St. Xavier high schools. It was an intense game with great crowd support for both teams. Below are a few of my favorites, all are available through the Game Images link above.

Waiting to go out for the coin toss.

Looking for an opening.

Coming up just short of making the catch.

Attempting to get to the quarterback.

Making the tackle and trying to get the ball out.

Trying to escape the defense.

Making the interception.
I had the pleasure of photographing this high school senior’s sister a few years ago. It was nice meeting him for the first time back in October. We decided to start the session indoors before heading out to a few locations. He seemed so relaxed in front of the camera and we had a great session. Here are a few of my favorites:
Starting in the studio.

Such great filtered light during the session.

Had to get a serious image in there.

Love this bench.

I love this location because of all the different possible backgrounds.

I’m a sucker for including vehicles in images and he was all for it.

We managed to squeeze in this football player’s high school senior session during the season. The weather cooperated and we were able to do the session on a Saturday evening. A few images at the football field before heading out into the wilderness. Okay, really a park but it was pretty isolated feeling once you moved past the front section. Even though it was small it gave plenty of unique backgrounds to be used. Here are a few of my favorites from the session:
What a great smile.

Loved this one best in black & white.

I loved this shirt on him.

See, a great smile.

A picnic table that was under a shelter.

Incorporating a little baseball at the end.

Over the years photographing sports I have kind of done my own scouting. I like to watch teams and players to get a feel for how they will play. Try to figure out tendencies because I think it helps me get better action images. Volleyball is a sport that I sometimes struggle with and have been working on improving my abilities with regards to photographing the sport. I have watched games on tv, looked at other photographer images and critiqued my own work. Last Saturday while I was photographing a match I saw some scouts in the stand. Not sure if their notes help me or not but here are a couple quick images I took between points.
Looks like official scouting papers.

Making his own scouting forms.
